"Watching television that day, I, like everyone else around the world, suffered a terrible shock: the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York. Stunned, I then had another shock when the bodies began to fall, because that was something that touched me personally. These falling bodies brought to life before my eyes on the screen precisely the pictorial problem that had concerned me since the 1960's. Occasionally suspended in stills, the bodies seemed, for an instant, to rise and then float in an indeterminate space."
